Thank you for visiting our Web site. The purpose of the TIPA is to transform politics in America by helping instill integrity into the political system. We will do this by focusing on the accuracy and fairness of political advertising - where billions of dollars are spent by campaigns every two years. Our 2004 pilot project was the United States Senate race in Colorado. We will take on other television advertising broadcast in Colorado and other states during the next election season (2006), based on available resources. The premise of the TIPA is twofold.
First, the public has a right to know the accuracy and fairness of campaigns and how they are being conducted. We believe “AdWatch” type efforts are helpful but often are superficial as they typically lack any definitive analysis. Second, we believe that if campaigns and their third-party supporters know an objective, independent nonpartisan group is monitoring their activity and is committed to aggressively highlighting transgressions, they will be less likely to engage in activities that distort the public's perception on key issues and ultimately harms our country's political process.
The good news is the two major party 2004 U.S. Senate candidates in Colorado – Republican Pete Coors and Democrat Ken Salazar - committed to participate in the TIPA. Their top campaign staffs confirmed with us their voluntary participation in writing. Both campaigns provided many of their television advertising spots, as they had promised. Every spot we received was posted on this Web site for you. Just click here to go to our advertisement section. You also can view TIPA-related television broadcasts we have produced as part of the project. We completed a thorough analysis of each advertisement and posted it for the Press and public to view. And our effort was very well received publicly.
The TIPA is a nonpartisan effort, committed to examining political advertising in a dispassionate, factual manner. TIPA's ultimate success depends on interaction from the electorate. If you would like to participate in our evaluations and ratings, please click here and join our Public Advisory Panel. Your ratings, comments, and suggestions always are welcome. Just as importantly, please tell your friends, colleagues, associates, family members, and anyone else you know who might be interested in the TIPA to visit our Web site and to help us raise the integrity of political campaigns in the United States.
Thank you for your interest in our effort.
Sincerely yours,
Aaron Harber
